Who Is This For?

User-centered design day. Students mapped invisible journeys, learned JTBD framework, and enriched PRDs with user journey layers.

What Happened

The Invisible Journeys exercise was a hit. Students discovered friction in tools they use daily, then channeled that awareness into their own PRDs. The side-by-side build comparison made the case for PRD enrichment more effectively than any lecture could.

Key Moments

  • Dictation-as-capture resonated — several students adopted it immediately
  • Comparing Day 1 vs Day 2 builds showed clear PRD enrichment impact
  • Journey maps surfaced friction points students hadn't noticed before

Student Highlights

“I've used UpToDate hundreds of times and never noticed how many clicks it takes to get to a dosing table.”

— Kevin

Learning Targets (as planned)

Knowledge

  • Personas — who specifically uses this?
  • Jobs to Be Done — what is the user hiring this app to do?
  • Journey mapping — step-by-step user experience
  • Friction & delight as feature prioritization

Skills

  • Voice-to-text capture (dictation as superpower)
  • Using Claude to turn messy capture into structured journey maps
  • Comparing daily builds to see PRD enrichment impact

Mindset

  • Curiosity over assumptions
  • Users know things you don’t
  • Messy capture → structured output

Schedule (as planned)

Day 2 session schedule (as planned)
TimeBlockWhat Happens
8:30 AM Morning Exercise “Invisible Journeys” posted in Slack
By 9:30 AM Exercise Due Post in #hds-general
10:00–10:45 AM Group Session Pull up 2–3 student posts, show how different raw inputs converge into useful journey maps. Introduce UCD toolkit: Personas, Jobs to Be Done, Journey Mapping, Friction & Delight.
10:45–11:00 AM Break
11:00 AM–12:00 PM Build Task Show yesterday’s Masterplan with a User Journey layer — watch what Lovable does differently. Plan teams’ approach.
12:00–1:00 PM Lunch
1:00–3:00 PM Build Time Teams add User Journey layer to PRDs. Fresh Lovable build from enriched PRD. Compare: yesterday’s build vs. today’s.
3:00 PM Deliverable Post updated PRD with User Journey layer + new Lovable build in Slack. Push to GitHub.
3:30–4:30 PM Group Debrief Compare builds. What changed when you added user journey thinking?
